The number of hospitalizations due to COVID-19 is on the rise in New Brunswick this week as the number of infections has fallen slightly.
According to the latest weekly update released Tuesday, the province recorded 1,377 new COVID-19 infections, down from 1,582 infections last week.
Of the new cases, 742 were confirmed following molecular testing. The rest, 635, were detected through a rapid screening test.
As of August 6, 132 people were hospitalized with COVID-19. At the Vitalité Health Network, the number of hospitalizations increased from 50 to 57. On the Horizon side, 75 hospitalizations were reported, an increase of 5.
Of the 132 people hospitalized with COVID-19, Public Health said 32 of them were admitted to hospital with the virus.
On Sunday, there were 204 hospital network employees absent due to infection with the virus.
New Brunswick has also recorded four additional deaths from COVID-19, bringing the total to 451 since the start of the pandemic.
Over the past week, 290 people have been immunized with their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine (93.5% of New Brunswickers have received at least one injection). The proportion of people who received two doses of vaccine amounts to 88.3% (129 doses administered last week) while only 53.2% of citizens obtained a booster dose (393 more).
