Last week, an average of 7,451 tests were performed per day (previously 7,468) and an average of 75 new cases were detected per day (previously 60). An average of seven Covid-19 patients per day (previously 4) have been hospitalized in the last seven days, and an average of 50 people have been hospitalized daily (previously 44).

The incidence continues to rise among people aged 15-49, and now the increase is already observed in all regions, compared to the previous week, according to the SPKC.

The reproductive rate (R) of Covid-19 infection last week was 1.14, indicating a spread, not a decrease, of the infectious disease.

Analyzing last week’s cases of Covid-19 and assessing the vaccination status of infected people, 451 people had not been vaccinated against Covid-19 or had not yet completed a vaccination course, representing a total of 86% of all cases last week, while 71 people had been vaccinated. % of all cases in the last week.

Comparing the intensity of infection per 100,000 population among vaccinated and unvaccinated / partially vaccinated people, Covid-19 infection was found 3.3 times more often in unvaccinated and partially vaccinated people in Latvia than in fully vaccinated people.

As the number of vaccinees increases and the prevalence of Covid-19 infection continues, mostly among unvaccinated people, the overall incidence of vaccinated people will increase, according to the SPKC. However, among vaccinated people, the disease is usually milder and requires less hospitalization, so the proportion of vaccinated and infected people should always be seen in the context of the number of prevented Covid-19 cases in the general population.

The European 14-day cumulative morbidity rate per 100,000 population has risen slightly to 214.3 (previously 200.4), but is currently on a stable trend. In turn, the indicator of Latvia has increased to 38.8 (previously – 30.5).

A total of 71 cases of imported Covid-19 were recorded in the previous week. During the 26th to 31st weeks (28.06.-08.08.2021), the patients most often came to Latvia from Turkey (56 cases), Russia (46), Spain (41), Great Britain (37), Georgia (18), France ( 16), the Netherlands (15), Finland (15), Uzbekistan (13), Bulgaria (7), Greece (7) and other countries.

SPKC emphasizes that vaccination is the safest and most effective way to protect yourself from severe forms of the disease. The population can find out about the availability of a specific manufacturer’s vaccine at the chosen vaccination point here.

Existing safety regulations and Covid-19 prevention measures, such as:

  • hand hygiene (regular hand washing and / or disinfection),
  • correct use of the face mask (covering the nose and chin),
  • regular ventilation of the premises (several times a day, wide opening of the windows so that the fresh air circulates in the room as much as possible),
  • do not go to cuddly areas even with the slightest symptoms of respiratory disease (eg sore throat, mild cough, fever).

It has already been reported that full vaccination against Covid-19 has been completed more than 700,000 people.
