The number of hospital admissions for the coronavirus has increased by 26 percent in a week. This is evident from the preliminary data from the Sciensano health institute on Saturday morning. The number of new infections is also still growing strongly.

In the week from 13 to 19 March, an average of 187.0 people with COVID-19 were admitted to Belgian hospitals every day. That’s an increase of 26 percent compared to the seven previous days. Currently, 2,153 corona patients are being cared for in the hospital, 550 of whom are in intensive care units.
The number of new confirmed infections rose by 36 percent in the week of March 10 to March 16. An average of 3,438 infections with the corona virus were added every day. More tests were conducted, but the positivity ratio has also increased to 7.2 percent.
The number of additional deaths from COVID-19 did decrease in the same week. An average of 23.6 people died per day during that period, a decrease of 6.8 percent from the previous week.
Since the start of the pandemic, 827,941 people have been infected with the corona virus in Belgium. COVID-19 killed a total of 22,650 people here.
