In November this year, the number of passengers using domestic flights was estimated to have reached 3 million. It turned out that more people used domestic flights than in November last year, before the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19).

According to the aviation information portal system of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on the 20th, in November this year, a total of 18,379 domestic flights and the number of passengers were 296,5257. In November last year, a year ago, the number of domestic flights was 16,211 and the number of passengers was 2.9 million. Compared to last year, the number of flights increased by 13.37% and the number of passengers increased by 2.22%.

In particular, this is the first time that the number of monthly domestic passengers has exceeded the same period last year since the Corona 19 incident. For example, in March this year, during the early days of the corona crisis, the number of domestic passengers was 1.13,206, which was more than half lower than in March last year, when there were 257,3792. In July and August this year, the number of domestic passengers recorded 2.49 million and 2.84 million, respectively, due to the effect of the peak summer season, but this was not reached last year when 2.7 million and 3 million were respectively during the same period.

Given the reason for the increase in the number of domestic passengers in November this year, the industry believes that social distancing, which was eased in the first phase in October, continued until mid-November, which had some influence. There is also an analysis that the result of gradual expansion of domestic routes by low-cost airlines (LCCs), which suffered from the suspension of routes in Japan and Southeast Asia, led to an increase in the number of domestic passengers last month. In fact, national airlines supplied 3.13 million seats for domestic flights in November last year, but 3.52 million seats last month.

However, the number of passengers is expected to drop again this month as the re-proliferation of Corona 19 is intensifying and the social distancing stage is raised. In order to save air demand, the non-landing international tourism flight product, which was launched in the middle of this month, seems to be canceled one after another. An official from the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs said, “If the social distancing stage is upgraded to 3 stages, there is a possibility that the non-landing international tourism flight product will be temporarily suspended.”
