The number of detected Covid-19 cases / Day has increased last week

An average of 518 new cases of Covid-19 were detected per day last week. At the same time, the number of tests performed decreased by 3.6% last week, but the average proportion of positive tests was 4.1%. A total of 3,518 new cases of Covid-19 infection were recorded last week.

An increase in morbidity has been observed in Latgale and Zemgale. Comparing the dynamics of Covid-19 morbidity over a two-week period, a long-term decrease is observed in all age groups, but the most pronounced is in the age group over 80, where the decrease is 56%. Meanwhile, among the population aged 50 to 59, the reduction in morbidity is 36%, but among persons under nine years of age – 17%.

However, looking at the week before last, there is an increase in all age groups except children, notes the SPKC.

The reproductive rate of Covid-19 infection calculated by epidemiologists in Latvia is currently 1.02, which means that 100 patients theoretically infect more than 100 other people.

The center also explains that the discovery of the new Covid-19 strains in Latvia and other European Union countries shows that the situation is unstable and very variable from week to week. The new strains are more contagious, meaning that they are more contagious, leading to an increase in the incidence in several countries.

However, the SPCC recalls that all types of SARS-CoV-2 virus have the same safety measures – at least two meters, proper use of masks covering the nose and chin, non-assembly and meeting in only one household and ventilation of the premises. Also, the importance of remote work of SPKC, while full-time work requires the organization of shifts and flows, as well as the use of masks.
