New study predicts fewer deaths in the USA
An influential model of the University of Washington is now assuming fewer deaths in the USA than previously feared. By August 4, around 60,000 deaths are now predicted after 82,000 the previous day. The model is one of a series of studies cited by the US Presidential Office.
Fauci promises easing
The US chief immunologist Anthony Fauci holds out the prospect of easing restrictions on public life. “If we are actually successful, it makes sense to at least plan what the return to normal should look like,” Fauci told US President Donald Trump’s favorite station, Fox News. Often times, Trump tweets something he previously heard on Fox News.
“That doesn’t mean that we will do it immediately, but that we will prepare for it.” The restrictions apply until the end of April. Some states want to maintain certain measures in May and June.
