The number of victims of the devastating floods in Germany has reached 156 people, police report. Thus, the total number of deaths in Western Europe after the floods caused by heavy rains has reached 183 people.
In the Rhineland-Palatinate region alone, which has suffered the most, the number of victims has risen from 98 to 110, according to police.
Another 670 people have suffered various injuries in this country.
Police are concerned that the number of victims will continue to grow.
One person also died in Bavaria near the Austrian border, where floods erupted after Saturday’s rains.
In the Austrian federal states of Salzburg and Tyrol, firefighters are in a state of high alert, while the town of Hallein is already flooded.
In Germany, meanwhile, rivers have also left the shores on Saturday night in areas of the federal state of Saxony on the border with the Czech Republic.
