The number of Covid-19 patients in hospitals has again exceeded 500 [papildināts plkst. 17.00]

Last day, 36 Covid-19 patients were admitted to Latvian hospitals, while nine patients were discharged, according to the National Health Service.

The total number of inpatient Covid-19 patients increased from 497 to 514 during the day.

Of the inpatients, 435 had moderate disease and 79 had severe disease. The number of previously seriously ill patients was below 80 on 10 October.

So far, a total of 23,358 Covid-19 patients have been discharged from hospitals in Latvia.

As in the previous week, just over 50 patients were hospitalized with Covid-19 on average per day, according to the Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).

An average of 51 patients per day were hospitalized in the previous week and 53 Covid-19 patients per day in the previous week.

There are also still a large number of patients with a severe course of the disease, as the reduction in these patients is small – 4.8%, according to the SPKC.

In the past week, from December 20 to December 26, the number of newly detected cases of Covid-19 has decreased by 17.4%. The reduction is due to less testing for both student leisure and public holidays.

Last week, an average of 6,760 tests were performed per day (previously 9,780), while an average of 613 new cases were detected per day (previously 742). Of all the tests performed, 8% (3853 tests) were related to screening in educational institutions, and 92% (43 466 tests) were related to the rest of the population. Of the positive cases of Covid-19, 4% (190 infected) were related to educational screening and 96% (4292 infected) to the general public.

The reproductive rate R of Covid-19 infection decreased to 0.83 last week (from 1.08 a week earlier).

Comparing the intensity of infection per 100,000 population among vaccinated and unvaccinated / partially vaccinated people last week, unvaccinated and partially vaccinated people in Latvia have Covid-19 infection 1.8 times more often than fully vaccinated, reports SPKC.

According to the report, 335 new cases of Covid-19 were discovered in Latvia last day and four deaths of the disease were registered, according to data compiled by the Center for Disease Prevention and Control.

The two-week cumulative morbidity rate has increased from 501.1 cases per year to 504.5 cases per 100,000 population.

Of all Covid-19 patients registered last day, 179 had not been vaccinated or had not completed the vaccination course, while 156 had been vaccinated.

Last day, a total of 4251 Covid-19 examinations were performed in Latvia, but the proportion of positive cases against those tested was 7.9%.

The agency LETA estimates that the total number of people with Covid-19 has risen to 9,551 in the last two weeks, with the rest considered to be over-the-counter.

To date, Covid-19 has been laboratory approved for 271,766 people in Latvia.
