From April 11 to April 17, an average of 233.7 people were hospitalized with covid-19 each day, a 6 percent decrease from the previous seven-day period. This is evident from the preliminary figures from health institute Sciensano on Sunday morning. The number of deaths, meanwhile, fell by 8.4 percent between April 8 and 14.

According to the most recent figures, a total of 2,916 people are now in hospital, 924 of whom are in need of intensive care. On Saturday morning, the counter was still at 3,015 admitted covid patients, 923 of whom were on the intensive care unit.
Between 8 and 14 April, an average of 3,638 new infections were diagnosed daily, a slight increase of 1 percent compared to the previous week. During the same period, an average of 41,839 tests were administered daily, which represents a decrease of 12 percent. The positivity ratio rose to 10 percent. In total, 947,000 infections have already been registered in our country since the start of the pandemic. The reproduction number is 0.94 according to the Sciensano dashboard.
The number of deaths is heading in the right direction for the second day in a row. Between 8 and 14 April, an average of 39 people died every day, a decrease of 8.4 percent. This brings the counter in our country to 23,718 covid-19 deaths.
In the meantime, 2,204,943 Belgians have received a first dose of the vaccine, which corresponds to 19.2 percent of the total population (24 percent of the adult population). Some 696,692 fellow countrymen have also received a second shot and are therefore fully vaccinated, which represents 6.1 percent of the total population (7.6 percent of the adult population).
