Between September 30 and October 6, an average of 3,274.6 new corona infections were confirmed in Belgium every day, according to the full figures from the Sciensano health institute on Saturday. This is an increase of 80 percent compared to the seven days before. That brings the total number of people who tested positive in our country to 148,981. On average, over 106 new patients were admitted to hospitals every day from 3 to 9 October, an increase of 56 percent over the previous period.

Between September 30 and October 6, 22,922 new cases were diagnosed. Of those new cases, 7,988 (35 percent) were reported in Flanders, 9,717 (42 percent) in Wallonia, and 4,686 (20 percent) in Brussels. Residence data was not available for 531 cases (2 percent).
On October 5 and 6, there were more than 5,000 confirmed infections each time, 5,022 and 5,048 respectively. The median estimate of the reproduction number was 1,337 between 3 and 9 October. In Luxembourg (1,759) and Walloon Brabant (1,710), the number 2 is gradually coming into view.
The largest increase in the number of infections is in Walloon Brabant (+159 percent), Luxembourg (+143 percent) and Namur (+124 percent).
