Albany. New York State may have underestimated the number of coronavirus deaths in nursing homes, according to Attorney General Letitia James. In a sample of 62 among the approximately 600 nursing homes in New York, 1914 deaths of residents with the coronavirus were counted. But New York’s Department of Health only recorded 1,229 for the same facilities.
The number of deaths would therefore be 56 percent too low
If the pattern is found throughout the state, he would give the death toll by almost 56 percent too low, says James’ report on Thursday.
