However, they do not believe that the hospitals’ capacity is threatened, and point out that intervention measures are less relevant now due to the vaccination.

The National Institute of Public Health (NIPH) has now published its weekly report, which then analyzes figures and trends. There they point out the corona inlays have gone up.
– There are currently reports of 75 new patients admitted to hospital with covid-19 as the main cause in week 42, after 61 in week 41 and 56 in week 40, they point out.
At the same time, FHI emphasizes:
– The number of admissions is now increasing, but still at a low level compared to previous periods with a high spread of infection, and the hospitals’ capacity is not threatened, they believe.
Here you can see for yourself how the number of inpatients has increased now – compared to previous waves – with unvaccinated population:
The new Minister of Health announced on Wednesday that national measures may be relevant.
– It has always been there that it is a possibility. But it is first and foremost at the local level that we work with any measures, says department head Line Vold in FHI to VG.
– We know that with such a thoroughly vaccinated population as we have in Norway now, intervention measures are less relevant. It takes less to reverse a negative development now that we have such a high vaccination coverage, points out the FHI top.
For 66 of those who were admitted last week, FHI knows the vaccination status. 38 per cent were unvaccinated and 56 per cent were fully vaccinated. At the same time, FHI emphasizes:
– We know that the proportion of infected people who develop a serious illness and have to be hospitalized is significantly lower now that the oldest and most at risk have a high vaccination coverage. This means that the proportion of those who need help in hospitals, of those who are infected at the population level in general, is low, says Vold.
The median age among the 288 fully vaccinated who have been admitted with covid-19 as the main cause so far is 77 years. And 76 percent of them belonged to a risk group.
– As expected, the proportion of new fully vaccinated patients per week has increased in recent weeks in line with increasing vaccination coverage, but the incidence of new admissions among fully vaccinated has been relatively stable in recent weeks, FHI points out.
Infection rates have also risen. From week 41 to 42, there was an increase of 54 percent, but NIPH urges caution in interpreting and comparing infection rates now:
– We are very concerned that we follow the hospital admissions even more closely than we follow the number of infected now, and that is because we have changed the testing, so it is difficult to compare the infection numbers now with the infection numbers earlier, Vold in FHI emphasizes.
