The number of children starving in New York increases

The number of hungry children in the city is increasing.

This according to a study carried out by the organization Hunger Free America which indicates that 38% of parents are reducing meal sizes or skipping some meals for their children due to not having enough money to buy food in the last month.

The group assures that this is due to the loss of hundreds of thousands of school snacks each day, as well as the reduction of parents’ income.

The director of Hunger Free America assures that the city government is committed to making unprecedented efforts to find alternative ways to offer meals in schools; but that a greater response and coordination between federal, state and local governments is needed.

Mayor de Blasio maintains that in the past month the city has provided three meals a day in more than 400 locations and has provided millions of emergency funds to food pantries.
