The number of beggars has decoupled with the coronavirus pandemic in Russia. A Moscow charity that helps the homeless has seen the number of beggars triple. Russia, with more than 4.2 million registered cases of the virus, imposed lockdowns last spring and many people lost their jobs. According to Roman Korosov who runs one of Russia’s best-known charities, around 300 people visit his shelter in Moscow every day. Goal: to warm up, eat a modest meal, or take a shower.
