The Financial Services Authority (OJK) has opened up about the many people’s economic banks (BPR) that have collapsed. OJK Chief Banking Officer, Dian Ediana Rae, estimates that the number of closed BPRs could reach 20 banks.
Until September 2024, the number of BPR/BPRS whose business licenses have been revoked will reach 15 banks. This means that it is possible that more than 5 banks will close again if there are more than 20 banks.
“It is possible to reach number 20 (BPR). If in the past months there are those who are still investing capital, that could be completed. event, at the Grand Hotel Hyatt, Central Jakarta, Monday (14/10/2024) yesterday.

He revealed that one of the reasons for the closure of many BPRs was because there were problems with capital injection with the provincial government as the owner of the BPR. Dian said capital injection to date for BPRs with financial difficulties has always been blocked by the political process of the provincial government.
“Obviously, if the regional government or the central government wants to inject capital, it will take a long time, there is a political process. At the same time, if BPR is a bank, of course it must. rescue which is very fast,” he said.
That is why not many BPRs were saved. For this reason, in order to prevent an increase in the number of BPRs closing, the OJK has made a new policy that these banks cannot be owned by different heads of regional government. However, in future it will be under the control of the Regional Development Bank.
“So, this means that it will no longer be allowed in areas, for example, it will be owned by different governors, but this will be concentrated under the provincial government and of course there is a need for regional sections as well, but under than control BPD,” he explained.
For your information, many economic people banks (BPR) and Sharia People Financing Banks (BPRS) have failed. In fact, the Financial Services Authority (OJK) has revoked 15 BPR and BPRS business licenses.
Dian explained that revoking business licenses is one of the OJK’s leadership activities to maintain and strengthen the national banking industry and protect consumers. One reason is that there are irregularities within the bank.
“This was done because the shareholders and administrators of BPR were unable to undertake restructuring efforts for BPR/BPRS, most of which occurred due to irregularities in the operations of BPR,” Dian said in her statement, Friday (11/10/2024)
