The theme of this year’s Pink Dot is “I am so! Dare to be me! Express yourself”, encouraging people of all genders to express themselves and appreciate themselves. Carnival starts at 12 noon on the 23rd of this month, with activities including film screenings, street markets, game booths, and a closing concert.
Free broadcast of the restored version of “Happy Birthday”
This year’s conference will broadcast free of charge the restored 4K version of Wong Kar-Wai’s classic gay movie “Breakthrough” and screenwriter Wei Shaoen, which won the Golden Horse Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for the movie “Lan Yu” , will be invited to share after the screening.

The LGBTQ organization “Great Love Alliance” is one of the organizers of Pink Dot. General manager Leung Siu-fai pointed out that this year’s carnival was supported by the entertainment industry: “In the early years, when guests were invited, some people would ask: ‘Are you talking about LGBT? That would be too sensitive.’ , so it’s not easy to have guests in a row. ” He is delighted to see young singers and artists actively participate in recent years: “This problem is no longer so unknown and everyone is embracing it. It has been a great transformation.” Therefore, they insisted on keeping Pink Dot even in difficult times.
Speaking about the gender-friendly space in Hong Kong in recent years, Leung frankly stated that gay rights legislation hasn’t made much progress so far, but over the past 10 years the people of Hong Kong have become more intellectual and have become a lot friendly to sexual minorities.
This year’s Pink Dot Ambassador and Artist Leung Cho-Yao shared that he couldn’t help but cry when he heard the theme of “Express Yourself”, because it’s not easy to express yourself in today’s generation. He hopes that one day society will no longer need gay rights activities: “Everyone is born with the same rights and everyone is equal when they leave.”
“0 + 3” might be difficult to attract tourists to participate
In the past, Pink Dot was mainly held in the West Kowloon Cultural District, while last year it moved into nine exhibits, attracting more than 7,000 people. Leung Siu-fai stressed that the conference will organize attendees to enter the venue in accordance with the restrictions on the flow of people from the government and the venue, and those entering the venue must travel with complete peace of mind.
In the past, Pink Dot has invited many foreign performance groups, and is also one of the “Pow Point” of comrades from all over the world. Asked whether the government could attract foreign tourists to Hong Kong to attend this year’s event after implementing the “0 + 3” entry policy, Leung admitted he was not optimistic: “If foreign tourists come to Hong Kong, although they do not have to quarantine at the hotel, there are other things, I hope that after the implementation of the “0 + 0” there will be more foreign tourists, especially friends from Southeast Asia. “
