jpnn.com, JAKARTA – The Health Ministry’s Director of Prevention and Control of Vector Infectious and Zoonotic Diseases, Didik Budijanto, said malaria cases in a number of areas in eastern Indonesia would still be difficult to eliminate in 2021.
Elimination of malaria is an effort to stop the spread of the disease in an area, either in a province or in a city district.
“Maluku, West Papua and Papua are still at zero percent. Not even one district has yet been eliminated,” Didik said at a press conference in Jakarta, Friday (23/4).
Even so, Didik said that there were three areas where malaria cases had been eliminated in all districts / cities, namely DKI Jakarta, East Java, and Bali.
He also explained that in 2020 there would be an increase in the number of districts / cities that experienced malaria elimination from the previous year.
“In 2020, there were 318 municipalities that eliminated from a total of 514 districts / cities,” said Didik.
He said he appreciated the provinces of East Nusa Tenggara and North Maluku which were the first regions in eastern Indonesia whose regencies / cities achieved malaria elimination this year.
On that occasion, Didik also revealed the Ministry of Health’s efforts in preventing and controlling malaria in Indonesia.
