Four inspections of small distilleries and private properties in Dobrich and Targovishte regions found more than 2 tons of bottled alcohol without excise duty paid
Employees of NAA and customs mobile groups of the “Customs” agency came across 2,080 liters of bottled ethyl alcohol during the total of 4 checks of specialized small distillation facilities (SMOD) and private properties on the territory of the Dobrich and Targovishte regions. The checks are in the period from 16.10.2.024 to 23.10.2024 under the coordination of the Directorate “Customs Intelligence and Investigation” in the Central Customs Administration in implementation of an Operational Plan for joint actions approved by the heads of the Customs Agency and the National Agency for revenue.
The seized illegal alcohol was stored in tubes and canisters and had the characteristics of brandy with alcohol degrees from 38 to 65 degrees. For him, no documents have been presented for charged, secured or paid excise duty, in accordance with the requirements of the Act on Excise Duty and Tax Warehouses (ZADS). Illegal alcohol was also detected after control purchases by customs officials as “mystery customers”.
The largest amount of 1253 liters of bulk ethyl alcohol was found during an inspection of a specialized small distillery (SMOD) on the territory of a settlement in the Dobrich region. During an inspection of a private property in another village in the Dobrich region, 352 liters of bulk ethyl alcohol were seized. In both cases, pre-trial proceedings were initiated by investigative customs inspectors under the supervision of the District Prosecutor’s Office – Dobrich. In two other cases, customs officials detained a total of 475 liters of illegal ethyl alcohol in tubes and cans, offered as “home brandy” in violation of the ZADS. The ethyl alcohol was seized and samples will be taken for laboratory analysis.
