Shortly before his death in February 2020, the writer put an end to his second novel, Skuķe.
Leo Brieza’s son, writer Adrian Briedis-Makovei, said of the novel “Skuķe”: it turns out to have been the greatest joy in the last years of my life.In a conversation, I jokingly pointed out that he puts those poems and translations aside and tries to write a longer essay. in his eternity, he admitted to me with a smile that he had indeed found himself in literature now.
His father’s second novel “Skuķe” allows to get to know his complex but uniquely ingenious worldview even more directly and directly, which at the same time closely merges with both reality and imagination.
And I’m very pleased to be a part of his world. ”
The artist of the book is Katrīna Vasilevska.
Writer, literary critic and critic, translator and cooler Leons Briedis (1949-2020) is the author of more than half a hundred books. These include dozens of poetry collections, children’s books, plays, musicals, screenplays. His first novel, The Wolf and the Widow, was published in 2019. Leons Briedis has received various awards and prizes both in Latvia and abroad, including the Latvian Literature of the Year Award for a lifetime contribution to Latvian writing (2015).
