The Nouvelliste | Montana Accord entities distance themselves from the Dec. 21 accord

The various subjects of the Montana agreement, in a press conference at the Karibe hotel on Thursday 29 December after two days of withdrawal to adapt their political strategies, rejected a priori the agreement of 21 December called “Consensus for an inclusive and transparent transition in elections The protagonists of the agreement of 30 August reaffirmed their will and their commitment to the search for a broad consensus that could lead to the disruptive transition desired by the signatories of the agreement.

On the issue of the “National Consensus for an Inclusive Transition and Transparent Elections,” adopted on December 21, 2022, at the Karibe Convention Center hotel, the extent of the Montana agreement does not exaggerate. Fritz Alphonse Jean, president elected under the agreement, was very sharp. “Faced with the scale of the crisis in the country where the population is waiting for a consensus that can bring the country out of the impasse, the entities in Montana were stunned to learn that the officials in charge, some members of the private sector, some political parties, some civil society organizations have decided to join together to confirm and endorse the catastrophic achievements of the incumbent Prime Minister and his government. To congratulate him, they have extended the service of his government to a head for at least 14 months” , the president-elect of the agreement was outraged on Thursday at a press conference at the Karibe hotel.

“This maneuver aims to organize fake elections to put puppets at the head of the state in order to continue to enjoy certain privileges in institutions such as customs, the General Directorate of Taxation, the National Old Age Insurance Office, among others” , continues the former governor of the central bank, Fritz Alphonse Jean.

According to Fritz Alphonse Jean, the 9/11 accord brought together some actors indexed in the assassination of former president Jovenel Moïse. “We were surprised to see some organizations whose members were sanctioned by the international community by signing the December 21 consensus. People who are probably afraid of sanctions or who say sanctions will come have signed up for pardons in advance,” said Fritz Jean.

“Accord Elected Officials, BSA, KNT Members, Civil Society Platform, Political Party Forum, KRN, No Entity, No Montana Accord Entity Authorizes Anyone to Associate Montana with Dec. 21 consensus, adopted with the goal of replacing the 9/11 consensus which expires next month. I want to be clear, we in the Montana Agreement are not mandated for anyone to sign the December 21 Agreement,” he hammered out the president-elect of the Montana Accord.

For her part, Magali Comeau Denis, coordinating member of the Montana Accord Monitoring Office, insisted that no organization signatory to the Montana accord is a signatory to the Dec. 21 consensus. “We are not aware of any signatories from Montana who defected to join the December 21st Agreement. No motions from Montana have been served with any decision,” Ms. Denis said.

“The national consensus for an inclusive transition and transparent elections” adopted on December 21 at the Karibe Convention Center hotel, according to its facilitators, aims to establish a “political balance”. “The consensus is oriented towards the resolution of the crisis by Haitians, for Haitians and in the shortest possible time. In the international community, the consensus is applauded with both hands,” Tardieu exulted on the Panel Magik program on Monday, December 26, 2022, adding that everyone recognizes that this is an extremely important step, especially after the failure of Montana which has failed where expected.

“Those who call themselves facilitators of the Dec. 21 accord are employees of an organization denounced by Montana,” Magalie Comeau Denis said.

The Montana agreement entities took the opportunity to reaffirm their willingness to continue the dialogue with a view to finding a broad consensus to achieve a disruptive transition. “What we believe is the change of political leadership of the country that can sever the ties between politicians and mafias, promote the depoliticization of the National Police of Haiti so that the institution has the capacity to absorb adequate international assistance defined within the framework of cooperation established with the new leadership of the country in terms of training, equipment, armaments, intelligence, technologies, training to respect human rights”, said Magalie Comeau Denis.

Furthermore, the entities in the Montana Accord want the international community to continue to sanction those identified as administrators of the criminal economy in Haiti and who have assets there. “The American and Canadian sanctions must extend beyond the political sector by attacking in particular the economic sector, involved in Haiti’s ‘criminal economy'”, specified Fritz Alphonse Jean, who said he regretted however that it is not the Haitians who have taken the initiative to punish smugglers, the corrupt, those responsible for the insecurity that is rampant in the country. “The population must demand from the power in place the file of the sanctioned persons so that they can answer before the Haitian judicial authorities”, he hoped.

The elected representatives of the Montana agreement, the coordination of all authorities and bodies of the agreement are gathered in a seminar, within the framework of a retreat to evaluate and adjust their political strategies in order to strengthen the struggle of the masses, the bond organization of the agreement with the population “This is a long-planned retreat, which has absolutely nothing to do with the latest political events. It was an opportunity to reaffirm ourselves and for those who will have access to the resolutions, the fundamentals of the Montana agreement remain and remain the most credible response to resolve the crisis in Haiti”, said Magali Comeau Denis, specifying that the committee has worked for two and a half months to plan and organize the retreat.
