Authorities and the population of the Norwegian city of Sortland have started a fight with a local mining company over the noise it makes. This is reported Cointelegraph.
Claims from local residents emerged despite the fact that KryptoVault creates jobs and the company uses the heat generated by the equipment to dry wood and algae, notes the publication.
The head of the company, Kjetil Hove Pettersen, accused the media of promoting the protest.
“Negative voices usually get the most attention from the media, but that doesn’t represent all local views,” he said.
The owners of the grid are happy to partner with the miners as they help balance consumption, Pettersen said. However, “in the current climate, there is a political and social price to pay for being explicit about it,” she added.
“The narratives that we are suppressing other industries because we consume (skeptics say we waste) so much energy are not true. Sometimes we are accused of inflating energy prices. This is also not true, ”Pettersen said.
According to him, mining is more likely to help reduce grid tariffs for electricity consumers and increase municipal revenues.
Pettersen believes the bitcoin industry has “a lot of work to do to debunk the myths and misconceptions” around the industry.
Recall that in 2021 the government of Norway express readiness support Initiative of the Swedish regulators on the EU-wide ban on cryptocurrency mining on the algorithm Proof of work.
