This Tuesday evening, at 9:05 p.m., M6 to broadcast the grand finale from his legendary show,
Beijing Express. In the running for the victory, and up to 100,000 euros, a Corsican couple, Julie and Denis, and the northerners sisters, Pauline and Aurélie. The latter had already participated in season 3, in 2008, and had risen to the final. Telephone meeting,
containment requires, with these two very dynamic blondes.

You have two participations in the Beijing Express for one and three for the other. How did you get into it the first time?

(Pauline) I was a fan of the first seasons. One day, I said to Aurélie, “Come on, we’re going to laugh, we’re going to do a casting. It’s a nice show, you travel, you have one euro a day and you sleep in people’s homes. “

(Aurélie) I said yes, while thinking that we would never be taken. And when we were detained, we said to ourselves “but it’s crazy, what are we going to do there, what is going to happen to us. “

(Pauline) We had to go to the other side of the world and leave my son who was only 16 months old at the time. Afterwards, we realized how lucky we were. Except that we thought we would take a step or two and not leave for 54 days with zero phone calls to our families.

Before Beijing express, you had already made trips like that, a little roots?

(Aurélie) At the time, not at all.

(Pauline) The only amazing things we did were summer camps! The other pairs kept telling us about their journeys, and we were the Cht’ites from Lille who came out of their countryside to discover the world.

And suddenly, did this experience change your way of living then?

(Aurélie) It took a long time to come back to reality. And then it opens your mind. I had been with someone for 7 years and I told myself that this was not the life I wanted. Same at the professional level, we changed everything.

Did you have a problem with reality TV, with cameras that follow you everywhere?

(Aurélie) In fact, we didn’t even realize it, because we are completely natural in everything we do. We are like that in everyday life.

(Pauline) When we got back from the adventure, it was very complicated. As soon as you left your house, there were lots of people asking you lots of questions. You signed a lot of autographs, it was amazing. While for us, there was nothing exceptional. We just had the chance to do this show. It’s as if we’ve been on a trip and all these people have joined us a bit.

Didn’t you have to hesitate long before agreeing to leave?

(Pauline) It was a big yes right away. We have great spouses, but they didn’t have a say!

(Aurélie) You never know where you are leaving before arriving at the airport. But suddenly, it was an opportunity to discover Russia, Inner Mongolia and China, countries that we did not know.

Participating in the anniversary season does something, doesn’t it?

(Aurélie) When we realized the emblematic pairs who were going to participate, we were afraid. We thought it was going to be hard and it happened during the shooting. The difference between the first and the last pair was a maximum of half an hour.

(Pauline) Everyone was super strong, and that was the big difficulty. What allowed us to get out of it was the rage and our complicity. We never give up, even when we trade cars.

What are you going to remember from this new adventure?

(Aurélie) The landscapes but above all the encounters. I remember this lady with whom we went to sleep in China.

(Pauline) She came out of the hospital in the morning and we arrived around midnight and still cooked us food. That’s crazy. Would you do it, welcome a stranger who arrives at midnight and cook food for him?

It seems that in China, people are fascinated by blondes. Did it help you?

(Aurélie) It’s quite the opposite, actually. Blondes in China are scary. Frankly, we struggled like patients. In the end, we were fed up with being blond.

(Pauline) It happened that because of that, we had to take up to 40 cars in a single race.

How do you live the news, the coronavirus epidemic, the containment?

(Aurélie) The hardest part is not being able to watch the show together. It’s a very difficult time, but one that gives rise to such solidarity between people. We learn to live differently to better find ourselves afterwards. We are still working in the family business at Orchies and my man is a firefighter, that of police officer Pauline. We’re in the middle of it.

(Pauline) The broadcast of the show during this period is a good thing. We receive a lot of messages from people telling us that we are their escape time on Tuesday evening. It warms my heart and makes me forget that I can’t watch with my sister when usually Beijing Express is a bit of a family celebration.

Do you know what you will do at the end of confinement?

(Pauline) Incidentally, I will try to get married. Fortunately, we decided to do this in November.

(Aurélie) And me, my man asked me to marry between the two trips, after Russia and just before I left, just to be sure that I earn well the 100,000 euros!
