The Non-Local Interaction of Dark Matter and Gravity: Changing our Understanding

Dark matter is changing our understanding of gravity

The movement of dark matter is controlled by all matter in the universe

A recent study by SISSA (Scuola Internazionale Superiore di Studi Avanzati) presents new model
non-local interaction of the dark matter of the galaxy with gravity.

For centuries, gravity has been described as an instantaneous force. This is what inspired Einstein to create his famous theory of relativity, where gravity becomes a local distortion of space-time. However, with the development of quantum mechanics, it became clear that non-local phenomena play a key role in understanding the nature of reality.

Now scientists suggest that dark matter, one of the most mysterious components of the universe, interacts with gravity precisely non-locally. “It’s as if all the matter in the universe is telling the dark matter in the galaxy how to move,” the study’s authors say.

The study uses fractional calculus, a mathematical tool developed in the 17th century that has recently found application in physics. This method made it possible to better describe the motion of stars in comparison with the standard theory of gravity.

Non-locality seems to manifest itself as the collective behavior of dark matter particles in a limited system, especially in small galaxies.

However, many questions remain unanswered. The authors emphasize the need for further research to find out: “How does nonlocality arise? What are its consequences in large structures, such as galaxy clusters or gravitational lensing?”

It is also necessary to revise the standard model of cosmology, taking into account this new mechanism. However, progress in understanding the nature of dark matter is a significant step towards a better understanding of our universe. Scientific research continues to provide new insights, bringing humanity closer to a full understanding of the phenomena around us.
