The Great Kristaps will open on November 12 this year with a film by Mārtiņš Grauds Koku opera, which is Anna Kirse ‘s contemporary opera in the forests of Finland. As usual, the program of Kristaps the Great also includes premieres. On November 13, Ivo Briežis’ documentary will premiere Homo Sovieticus, which is a study of our common history in the late Soviet years, and on November 14 – a collaboration of a younger generation of directors – a documentary Presence (directors Liene Linde and Armands Začs) reveals the experiences and reflections of different women during pregnancy.
The main The Great Kristaps Event – The awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, November 15th. Viewers will be able to watch the solemn ceremony, which will present the awards for the best films and film industry professionals, as well as special jury and partner awards, including the Latvian Mobile Phone Award for the best feature film in the amount of 2,500 euros.
The Great Kristaps The program includes both films that have already been shown or are still shown in cinemas and premieres. The retrospective program dedicated to Kalvis Zalcmanis will also be available both in person and online – www.filmas.lv. As always, it will be possible to meet the filmmakers, a separate screening is for the youngest viewers (Saturday, November 14, morning). Viewers will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite movie on the portal NGOs from 22 October to 12 November.
This year’s nominees for the National Film Award Kristaps the Great have been nominated. The prize for a lifetime contribution to film art will be presented to Kalvis Zalcmanis.

The most important event in the Latvian film industry Kristaps the Great will take place this year from 12 to 15 November. This is the most important event in the Latvian film industry, which gives an opportunity to see and professionally evaluate the latest Latvian films, as well as to honor the Latvian cinema traditions. In 2016 Kristaps the Great has won the status of the National Award, and this year the awards will be presented for the 32nd time.
