The Nobel Prize in Medicine goes to the discoverers of microRNA

Once again, the Karolinska Institute has given the expected prize in biomedical research. With the earlyness of Switzerland, the Swedes have announced the 2024 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. Dr. Gary Ruvkun for the discovery of microRNA and its critical role in post-transcriptional gene regulation. This advance in our understanding of how the control of gene expression has changed, opens up new perspectives in the study of diseases and the development of innovative treatments. Research that began by “playing around” with worm DNA and is, now, one of the main pillars of modern biology and medicine.
