There is no doubt that New Yorkers are completely obsessed with sneakers. A worldwide phenomenon that New York has made its own: just give a walk through SoHo, Williamsburg or a visit to one of the most popular stores of the moment as KithStadium Goods o Aimee Leon Dore, to discover the latest trends in sneakers. And if there is a trend that I would highlight from the ones I have seen on my last trip to New York, it would be, without a doubt, nike dunk shoes (both in his version high as low). Nails sneakers that are everywhere and that seem to have become a Mandatory footwear in the closet of New Yorkers.
Initially created for the court almost 37 years ago by Peter Moore (the mind behind iconic models such as the Air Jordan 1 that is currently on everyone’s lips thanks to the movie Air Directed by Ben Affleck) the Dunk soon became an icon of basketball in the 80s and adapted to the urban style thanks to its design, its comfort and its black and white colors that combine with everything.
The reason for his recent success? It all started when Virgil Abloh chose them as absolute favorites for a collaboration with Off White; since then their popularity has increased strongly and they are currently one of the sneakers most sought after and desired. Another proof that confirms that Nike Dunk shoes are an absolute trend? They are always about to run out.
