The nightmare in Spain. The number of victims is growing – 2024-10-31 22:14:00

Dozens of people remain unaccounted for following catastrophic flooding in Spain. So far, 158 people have been confirmed dead, AFP reported, citing the authorities.

There are “dozens and dozens of missing persons”, Minister of Territorial Policy Angel Victor Torres said this evening at a press conference in the capital Madrid, BTA reported.

Two days after the catastrophic flooding in areas of eastern and southern Spain, he confirmed that at least 158 people had died, as rescue services had previously reported.

According to data from yesterday, the victims were 95.

The vast majority of confirmed deaths – 155 – are in the eastern autonomous region of Valencia. Two people died in the neighboring region of Castile – La Mancha, and one in Andalusia, to the south.

Thirty-nine people have been detained for “robberies and crimes” since the floods, Torres said. He made it clear that the security forces will deal with those who are profiting from the tragedy without compromise.

The minister promised that the central government would put “all military resources” at the disposal of the authorities in Valencia, specifically for the delivery of aid and the opening of blocked roads to make all affected areas accessible.
