On Wednesday, there will be a super full moon, the biggest in terms of this year. It is a phenomenon when the Moon is full and at the same time it is closest in its orbit around the Earth. The phenomenon will appear for the second time this year. The current superfull has the nickname floral – according to the blooming flora.
The moon orbits the Earth in a slightly eccentric ellipse. Sometimes it is closer to the Earth, on the so-called ground floor and sometimes further – in the ground floor. The times of the ground floor and the ground floor occur in different phases of the Moon. If they are at the time of the full moon, this full moon is slightly larger than those that do not coincide with the time of the ground floor. The distance of the Moon also varies with different ground floors.
This time, the moon will be closest to Earth on Wednesday at 3:53 Central European Summer Time. The full moon then occurs at 13:13. “So if you want to wait for the biggest full moon of the year, wait west of the moon around four in the morning on May 26,” said astronomer Petr Horálek. The moon will be 357,309 kilometers from Earth, which is 85 kilometers less than in the previous, April superfull.
In some countries, a “bloody superfill” occurs. With this phenomenon, a total lunar eclipse occurs during the maximum phase of the full moon. During it, the moon penetrates the earth’s shadow. And because, according to Horálek, at the same time, faint earthly reds falling on the Earth’s atmosphere fall into the interior of the Earth’s shadow, the Moon acquires a reddish color. A total lunar eclipse will be above the horizon, especially in Oceania, the western United States and eastern Asia.
Horálek stated that another “bloody superfull” will occur on October 8, 2033, but we will not see it again in the Czech Republic. It will not be visible from us until October 19, 2051.
