Next year, on January 1, at the “Winter Classic” at Minneapolis’ Target Field, Minnesota’s “Wild” and St. Louis’s “Blues” would meet, and an All-Star game was scheduled for January 29-30 in Florida.
On Thursday, the league reports that it is impossible to predict what the situation will be in connection with Covid-19 in January, so it was decided to cancel the measures. However, the NHL has indicated that the canceled events will take place in the same cities next time.
“The presence of fans in the” Winter Classic “stadiums and All-Star Gaming Arenas is very important. Their participation in other activities related to these events is also very important,” said Steve Mayer, NHL’s senior managing director. “Given the fact that we can’t predict when we will be able to see the fans in the arenas again, we decided to postpone these events to 2022.”
“Fans should attend these events in person, as has been the case in all previous years.”
Majers also revealed that the league is working on a new and even more interesting program of events.
The NHL statement also said the decision was not linked to plans to start the season on January 1. The NHL agreed with the Players’ Association (NHLPA) on October 6 as the start date for the new season.
