The NHL team Arizona Coyotes is last in the NHL and is facing a lead-heavy season.
Now it can get even worse. After several non-payment of rent, the team may be locked out of its home arena Gila River Arena.
Arizona Coyotes have it tough. On the ice, things are not going very well, they are currently last in the entire NHL with only 12 recorded points in 25 games.
On the ice side, things are just as bad. So bad that they now risk being shut out of their home arena Gila River Arena, in Phoenix. It writes The Athletic.
“Human error”
The reason for this is that Ice Arizona Hockey LLC, which owns the NHL club, has unpaid debts to the state and the city of Glendale. The debt is stated to be up to approximately SEK 1.2 million.
In a statement to The Athletic, the Arizona Coyotes say they have started an investigation and explain the debts as a result of “a human error”.
The Coyotes have until December 20 to pay the debts. If they do not pay before then, the city of Glendale will deny club employees access to the arena.
The club can be moved to Canada
The Arizona Coyotes have played in the Gila River Arena since 2003, but it has already been clear that the club is without the home arena after the season. This is because the city of Glendale did not want to extend the arena agreement.
In Canada, the news has raised hopes that the club will be moved to Quebec, which had an NHL team between 1979 and 1995. Most recently in 2015, Quebec applied for an NHL team, but then received no from the league.
