The NHL has seen a shift in support for LGBTQ+ communities with some teams not wearing rainbow-colored uniforms and players refusing to participate.

Until this season, pro-LGBTQ+ communities and pro-pride game nights in the National Hockey League (NHL), including teams trying on rainbow-colored uniforms, did not gain much traction. However, this has changed, several players and even clubs have already refused to wear the shirts, and it is expected that this trend could continue. Why is that?

“Pride nights and Pride shirts play an important role in promoting the inclusion of the LGBTQIA+ community. It’s sad to see that some teams no longer wear them or don’t understand their meaning, while elsewhere the focus is on hockey players who choose not to participate in this campaign, thus not paying as much attention to the event itself anymore ,” says one of the few NHL hockey players who have revealed homosexuality.
