The National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) found discrepancies in at least 600 hospital beds during inspections of regional health funds. The audit has shown that the beds reported in the electronic information system do not match those recorded in the contracts with the medical facilities. This was announced by acting the manager of the NHIF Prof. Momchil Mavrov.
There is a discrepancy between the number of beds entered in the information system and the beds actually contracted, Prof. Mavrov explained. Such discrepancies have been found in many of the regional health funds.
“And the difference in the data could lead to a greater volume of activity and to greater payments by the Treasury,” he expressed doubt, quoted by BTA. It is the RZOK that are obliged to enter in the information system of the Cashier the number of beds that they have contracted for payment of an activity.
The audit is also ongoing, which will determine whether a larger volume of activity is being reported.
Explanations for non-compliance with Prof. Mavrov’s order for preliminary and sudden control were given by 14 RZOK, reports BTA.
“So far, there is no emerging trend to change directors of regional health insurance funds, but it is possible that there will be penalties. I say possible, since each explanation should be evaluated on its own,” said Prof. Mavrov.
“There are new directors of some district health funds, but there are directors who, based on their previous experience, should not allow such lapses,” he added. In his words
there are other NHRI directors who have reported, but the NHRI leadership disagrees with their formal approach.
“Their reports are blanket and do not give a good enough picture of what is happening at the level of the regional health insurance fund,” said Mavrov.
He announced as early as two weeks ago that there are going to be inspections in the RZOK whether they carry out sudden control in the medical facilities that are located on their territory, noting then that some of the regional funds do not carry out such control, despite an order issued by him.
