The NGO asks for time to assess the compliance of the “Mars Park” with the status of a state protected cultural monument – in Latvia – News

Activists call not to start construction work on the territory of “Mars Park” until the NCMP has made an assessment. In a letter also sent to the National Security Commission of the Saeima, the National Security Council and SJSC “Valsts nekustamie īpašumi”, the activists ask “not to destroy” Mars Park “until its cultural and historical value has been clarified”.

The letter states that on June 30, NGOs received an interim response from the NCMP to a private individual’s proposal to include “Mars Park” in the list of State Protected Cultural Monuments, which implies that with other objects of such a typological group and to inspect it in nature, namely, in order to assess its cultural and historical value and preservation, the term for making a decision is extended until 15 September this year.

In order for the administration to do so, the organizations request that construction work on the new National Security Service building, including the planned felling of trees in Mars Park, not begin until that date.

The letter was signed by Mihails Simvulidi, Vice-Chairman of the City for People Association, and is joined by the Riga Neighborhood Alliance, Čiekurkalns Development Association, Riga Center Development Association, Providus Public Policy Center, Latvian Civic Alliance Association, Teika Neighborhood Association, Rugby Club Eži “, Sarkandaugava Development Association, Environmental Protection Club, Brasa neighborhood association” PAR trees in Riga “and like – minded group” Association of Disabled People and their Friends “Apeirons” “.

It has already been reported that in Riga, on the site of the former bicycle track “Mars”, it is planned to build a new building for the needs of the VDD, thus it will not be decided to fulfill the intention of VEF district real estate developers and residents to create a park in this area.
