The Miami Dolphins were ready to leave the field after a big sack by Jaelen Phillips, but the flag came out in a brutal decision that sent NFL Twitter a frenzy.
Outside of the craziest Tyreek Hill touchdown (or any touchdown for that matter) NFL fans will ever see, the Miami Dolphins could do nothing football Sunday night against the Los Angeles Chargers. . But the defense did their best to keep them in the game.
Down 17-7 in the third quarter, they had the Chargers on a third go and needed a stoppage. Setter Jaelan Phillips ran through the Los Angeles offensive line and hit Herbert with what looked like a good sack.
That’s not how the boo men saw it.
The officials raised a flag and said the Dolphins were being bullied because Phillips put his weight on the quarterback. But you can watch the video and be the judge because it definitely looks like an ordinary sack.

NFL fans on Twitter couldn’t believe this foul was called “passer roughing” because there is no more routine tackle and sack than that.
It seems that quarterback protection has gone too far. Whether it’s the Chiefs in Week 13, the Falcons vs. Tom Brady and the Bucs, the Ravens a few weeks ago, or whatever, the umpires are throwing flags for the most routine plays imaginable that aren’t in the true spirit of roughing the passer and the game of football.
Yes, quarterbacks and all players need to be protected. They also have to play the game and if Phillips is not allowed to do so without giving the Chargers 15 yards and a first down, then the rule needs to be changed.
