Japanese carmaker Mazda has previously said that some of its new models will remain true to internal combustion engines, using Skyactive-X technology, which uses so-called positive ignition compression combustion (SPCCI). Under certain conditions, the engine does not work like a classic petrol engine, ie it would burn petrol with spark plugs, but a diesel engine with the help of a spark plug. It can burn a very lean mixture and thus reduce its fuel consumption and emissions.
–
This technology could allow some petrol mazds to remain on the market, according to the Autocar server, which ranks the new generation of the Mazda MX-5, probably the most legendary small sports car, among the hot candidates for this engine. The preservation of internal combustion at the so-called Miata would definitely be appreciated by a number of car enthusiasts.
–
The Skyactive-X engine is currently available in several models on the European market. It is also in the USA, with mostly atmospheric engines in the Mazda 3 or a new six-cylinder for the Mazda 6. The only car where the Skyactive-X works with a turbocharger is the American version of the Mazda 3. According to Autocar, however, it is clear that the MX -5 will also get an atmospheric engine in the fifth generation.
–
The basic MX-5 engine is traditionally fifteen-engine and the unit with Skyactive-X technology is only two liters so far. The question therefore remains whether the non-traditional combustion will be inherited by another unit or the novelty will start right at two liters.
–
It is also not clear when the new MX-5 will be delivered to customers. Behind the scenes, according to the British, there is talk of 2024, but it is only unconfirmed speculation. We will have to wait for answers about the drive and design.
