The next generation Dacia Duster could also have an electric version if the market demands it. Its life cycle is long enough to be vulnerable in the event of tightening pollution rules, and the platform will allow the adoption of an electric motor without many technical complications.
The facelift of the Duster model did not manage to impress the fans of the model too much, so everyone uses their imagination to discuss the third generation of the model. It will hit the market in 2023 and we already know that it will have hybrid engine versions under the hood. However, those from Dacia could go much further, offering an electric propulsion system for the future Duster, given the similarities between the platform on which it will be built (CMF-B) and the electric CMF-B EV.
For those who later opened the TVs, CMF-B EV is a new platform for electric vehicles, developed by Renault from CMF-B. This should not be confused with the CMF-EV platform used by Renault for the new electric Megane. The first model to use the new CMF-B EV platform will be serial version of the Renault 5 concept, presented this month in Munich. Subsequently, the range of models that will use the new platform will be enriched with an electric crossover, possibly inspired by the Renault 4.
With the large production volumes that the new electric platform will allow and the falling prices of batteries, analysts are already talking about a price below 20,000 euros for the future Renault 5. Dacia Duster could also benefit (and contribute, in the same time) of this volume saving, so an electric duster is not a very distant dream.
Dacia Duster will also have an electric version. How Dacia will keep the affordable price of Duster
With pollution legislation moving faster than IT, it’s no coincidence that the end of the future Duster’s life cycle could mean an abrupt end for heat engines. Dacia will have to be prepared for this possibility and it certainly will be. Even if Duster does not have an electric version at launch, it will be offered, at the latest, with the facelift.
Dacia officials have promised that Duster will remain a capable 4 × 4 vehicle, although the CMF-B platform does not know of any all-wheel drive model at this time. In turn, the CMF-B EV electric version does not allow the installation of a second electric motor on the rear axle. It remains to be seen what technical solutions Dacia will use to maintain the strong character of Duster.
Most likely, the future Duster model will not have a diesel engine, which will provoke heated discussions among Dacia brand fans. Instead of diesel, the Romanian SUV will have a hybrid propulsion system. This will be a new one for the Renault Group, in which the 1.6-liter heat engine of current models it will be replaced with one with a cylinder capacity increased to 1.8 liters. It will run on the Atkinson cycle, which will allow for superior efficiency without losing performance from the current hybrid system.
