The New York Yankees are experiencing a real nightmare in the 2023 season of the Major Leagues after this Tuesday They will add their ninth consecutive defeat by falling 2-1 in their match against the Washington Nationals to match their worst losing streak since 1982.
A pair of home runs by Carter Kieboom and CJ Adam were enough to topple the Yankees and plunge them further into the AL East cellar, now holding a record of 60 wins and 65 losses.
And it is that The Mules had not had such a serious moment in the regular season since 1982 when they accumulated nine losses in a row between September 13 and 21.
In fact, that season also ended with a negative record of 79-83 and ended with up to three fired managers, the last one inside the dugout being former MLB pitcher Clyde King.
Part of the Yankees’ losing streak is due to the poor offensive work of the Mules. In the game against the Nationals they culminated with just two hits and both came from catcher Ben Rortvedt, who before Tuesday’s game had just four hits in 42 times at bat.
This has made The Yankees have gone 61 innings without facing each other on the scoreboard and of those nine losses they have only been able to score 21 runsallowing a total of 53.
If they do not raise their heads and turn their present around, the Yankees will finish for the first time since 1992 with a negative record and will lose their chance to access the postseason, in search of a new World Series title that has been elusive since 2009 when they won to Philadelphia Philles.
