Adding quality arms to the starting rotation is one of the priorities of the New York Yankees management this MLB offseason.
In the Bronx they know that meeting that goal will be key in their aspirations to return to the Major League playoffs and that is why they have been linked to several of the best free agency options. But they are also open to negotiating the arrival of a pitcher via trade.
Analyst Jim Bowden of The Athletic mentions among the players the Yankees can bring in in a trade is right-hander Corbin Burnes, a Cy Young winner whom the Milwaukee Brewers could be willing to trade.
There has never been a doubt about the fact that Gerrit Cole will continue to be the Yankees’ ace and his weight in the organization demonstrates this, beyond the fact of having won his first Cy Young. The 33-year-old right-hander had the best individual performance of any member of the Bronx team in a disappointing season and is ready to go for more. Whoever comes, he will be first in the rotation. In 2023 he had 33 starts with a 15-4 record, the best ERA in the American League (2.63) and was the leader with 209.0 innings pitched, as well as third with 222 strikeouts.
