Note that this event will be an opportunity for skippers to test themselves before the next non-stop, unassisted solo round the world race (November 10, 2024 to March 7, 2025).
Last qualifying race for the Vendée Globe
This crossing of the Atlantic is a real challenge for future competitors in the Vendée Globe. Indeed, it will be the last qualifying race for this deadline. To qualify, skippers must participate in two qualifying races: one in 2022 or 2023 and one in 2024. They must necessarily finish one of them, in a time not to exceed the winner’s time plus 50 %.
The New York Vendée – Les Sables d’Olonne is also the last race in which skippers earn miles with a view to their selection for the Vendée Globe, if there were more than 40 of them to qualify (the limit is set at 40) . Thus, to underline its importance and to encourage sailors to take part in the event, the organizers have given it a special feature: for each mile covered, sailors will count 1.5 miles. The entry line-up for the 2024 Vendée Globe will be revealed at the finish of this Franco-American race.
