On September 21, the prestigious North American newspaper The New York Times published a supposedly informative piece about the different ways that the Russian state media Russia Today has to spread its message despite its ban in the United States and the European Union. . As part of said article, signed by Neil MacFarquhar, the NYT defamed Canal Red and used spurious arguments and manipulations to slip a falsehood: that the Spanish media would be a kind of covert operation by the Putin government to propagate its agenda in Spain.
As a consequence of the publication of this hoax, the director of the network channel, Pablo Iglesias, decided to send a letter to the editor-in-chief of the New York Times, Joseph Kahn, demanding a rectification. After receiving no response, Pablo Iglesias made the letter public a week later so that everyone can know what happened.
Below, we include the video and text of said letter:
I am the director of Canal Red, a left-wing Spanish media channel. The supposedly ‘liberal’ New York Times has published a slandering fake news accusing us of being a Kremlin cover news operation. This is my letter to Mr. Kahn, editor-in-chief of the @nytimes pic.twitter.com/KMtZa5hX5W
