The New York Stock Exchange rose slightly on Monday. It got a little boost from a rise in oil prices at the end of an overall cautious session after several weeks of rise: the Dow Jones gained 0.12% and the Nasdaq 0.28% .

According to final results, the flagship Dow Jones Industrial Average took 21.57 points to 17,623.87 points and the technology-dominated Nasdaq 13.23 points to 4,808.87 points. The larger S&P 500 index, for its part, advanced 2.02 points, or 0.10%, to 2051.60 points.

“It is mainly oil that gives momentum to the stock market,” said Peter Cardillo, chief economist at First Standard Financial. Oil prices, which Wall Street has been following a lot of fluctuations since the end of last year, moved forward on Monday, again approaching their highs of the year in a market without much news, seeming supported in particular by technical factors.

For the rest, the mood remained cautious on the New York Stock Exchange, where the indices oscillated throughout the session around the equilibrium, even if a certain optimism seems to continue to reign after a big month of rebound which allowed the Dow Jones and the S&P 500 to erase a terrible start to the year.
