New York / Berlin (MH) – The New York Philharmonic have canceled all concerts until January 5, 2021. They deeply regret the decision, but have no choice, said the President and CEO Debora Borda on Wednesday. “Our top priority is the health and safety of our audience, our musicians and employees.” It had become clear that due to the corona pandemic, no large groups of people could gather until the end of the year.

The orchestra hopes to be able to play live performances again from January 6, 2021. The Philharmonic is currently looking for opportunities for concerts in smaller formats. In the meantime, recordings of previous performances and new videos will continue to be offered free of charge on the Internet.
Music director Jaap van Zweden spoke of a challenging time. He is at home in Amsterdam with his family, “and during those very long months our New York Philharmonic family was in our hearts and minds.” He is very much looking forward to 2021, when the musicians of the New York Philharmonic can reunite with their audience in live performances.
