This Wednesday, the organization of the New York Marathon announced the cancellation of the emblematic race that was scheduled for November 1.
“Due to the coronavirus and related to the health and safety of the runners, spectators, volunteers, staff and the advertisers and communities that hold the event,” was the explanation.
“The Marathon is an iconic and beloved event in our city. I celebrate that New York Road Runners has put the health and safety of the spectators and you run first”; said Mayor Bill de Blasio.
The 50th edition of the race, which began in 1970, will be run on November 7, 2021.
The US Open of tennis is scheduled to take place between the end of August and the beginning of September, also in New York.
