Just yesterday Tom Thibodeau announced that he was going to remove Kemba Walker from the New York Knicks rotation. At the time, the arrival of the point guard did not seem to have any type of risk, since adding to a potential All-Star for less than nine million a year is a unique opportunity. Yet twenty games later, the Knicks have found themselves far worse with him on the court, and Thibs has not batted an eye. The news coincides in time with a revival of John Wall’s situation in Houston, and the first rumors about a possible barter have not been long in coming.
Details A. Sherrod Blakely in Bleacher Report that sources close to the Knicks tell him that New Yorkers might be interested in seeking a trade with the Rockets for John Wall. Such a move would not come as a mere trading card and would imply that the Knicks would introduce some piece of value to win the five-time All-Star.
Under normal conditions, the market value of both would be more or less similar, even Wall’s should be damaged by his high salary tab. However, while the Knicks dispense with Walker with the idea of winning games, Stephen Silas’s side removed Wall with the diametrically opposite plan. So Houston has an advantage in these conversations.
Anyway, at the moment it’s just a rumor. Right now the Knicks have as a priority to set the course of the team without Kemba, although obviously they have already begun to consider options for his departure. The same article by Sherrod Blakely points out that Walker’s current price is on the ground, but that it could grow as the market close date approaches and teams appear willing to gamble on a veteran as the point guard.
