The New York International Marathon is back

The New York International Marathon marks its return this Sunday for its 50th edition after an absence of more than two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The world’s largest marathon was due to take place in November 2020, before its cancellation in the wake of restriction measures decided by New York authorities to deal with the spread of the coronavirus. Health crisis requires, the organizers decided this year to limit to 33,000 the number of athletes wishing to participate in this sporting event. Representing more than 100 countries, the runners will have to cover 42 kilometers, crossing the five boroughs of the American metropolis, namely Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx and Manhattan.

More than a million spectators and nearly 10,000 volunteers will respond to support the athletes throughout the course, especially when they arrive at First Avenue, more than 5 km long, indicates “New York Road Runners Club” , organizing party of the event.

The New York Marathon is part of the World Marathon Majors, a competition bringing together six flagship marathons including those in Boston, Paris, London, Berlin, Chicago and Tokyo.
