After a series of delays, Nightdive Studios has now set a new release window for System Shock Remake. The new version will now be launched in March 2023.
Via the game’s Kickstarter page the team admits that this isn’t the first time it has come up with launch plans that have since been scrapped. This time, though, things are different, Nightdive argues, in part because Prime Matter has joined the pack as publisher.
– As some of you have already pointed out, this isn’t the first time we’ve released a preliminary launch window, but a lot has changed in the last few years. The scope and scale of the project has changed dramatically and with Prime Matter on board we have had the opportunity to focus on game prep, bug fixes and localization support. These are the last big steps we have left before we can launch the game we are very proud of.
The developer also writes that the extra development time allowed for polishing parts of the game that were initially finished. By the way, the Citadel space station has undergone an overhaul, new enemies have been added and the effects of weapons should be improved.
System Shock first came out for the PC in 1994 and has since become known as one of the flagship games in the so-called “immersive simulator” genre, which is largely about freedom of choice in how to solve problems. Here the story of a hacker who wakes up on the space station Citadel Station is told. This is controlled by an AI called SHODAN, who tries to stop the hacker.
The new version attracts with updated graphics, modern control system, revised user interface and new sound and music. The game will come exclusively to PC.
