TikTok is particularly popular with young people and is used more than 800 million times worldwide. Now the Berlin police are also joining the video platform. However, the Chinese operators and their data protection regulations are controversial.
After Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Youtube and Twitter, the authority wants to recruit young people on TikTok. But you don’t want to read the details publicly yet.
“No information can yet be given about the exact content of the video clips,” the press office said. “The preparations for the start and the verification of the channel are currently in progress, an exact start date is not yet known.” Just this much: The “Personal 4.0 project group” and the social media team should use the account in the future.
TikTok is owned by the Chinese company ByteDance. The company is repeatedly criticized. Mainly because it could make user data available to the Chinese government, they say. In addition, content is allegedly censored, range restricted – there is even accusation of espionage.

The Bundeswehr therefore said goodbye to the Chinese platform in May of last year. The data protection concerns are known, so the Berlin police. “When dealing with the platform, data security is therefore a top priority.”
In Germany, the police from North Rhine-Westphalia are already successful on TikTok. The account has 156,000 fans and received over a million likes for its 38 short videos.
