It was last week tiktok Dom John shared the video, which has been viewed more than 3.4 million times.
There he promotes a series of problems with a new Tesla Model S plaid.
Giovanni shares weekly automotive content for his 24,300 followers.
– Despite costing well over $120,000, it looks like it was made by kids, says Giovanni of the new Tesla model.
The price is approximately NOK 1.2 million (plus VAT).
Tesla Norway said in a press release in August this year that Plaid models are on their way to Europe with deliveries to customers from November to December.
The novelty is known to be among the fastest electric cars in the world and boasts two motors that produce a total of 1,020 horsepower.
Show errors
In his Tiktok post, Giovanni shows loose rubber strips on his front and rear doors.
– Why is everything so bad, he asks his followers.
It also shows issues with the trunk in both the front and rear of the car.
– There are children who have done it, he comments along the way.
Common problems
People who both agreed and disagreed with John’s cutting statement immediately spoke up.
A follower, who claimed to be a former Tesla employee, comments that the issues he’s referring to are fairly common with the supplier:
“I’ve worked for Tesla before, they have 100% poor quality control there. After three years, everything creaks and cracks,” he comments.
Another says he had similar cosmetic issues with his model.
However, people criticizing Tesla are nothing new. Elon Musk, co-owner of Tesla, among other things, responded to criticism of their quality control last year in an interview with the automotive magazine To install jalopnik.
Tesla did not respond to Dagbladet’s questions.
Although many people praise Giovanni’s post, many claim that they have never had any problems with their Teslas.
“You only see the ugly on TikTok, because that’s what gets the likes,” comments one follower, adding that he’s very happy with his model.
“Never had such problems, I’m more than satisfied,” comments another.
Giovanni’s video also went viral on Twitter, where it was shared like wildfire:
– The car brand that many love to hate
– Tesla is the car brand that many people love to hate, all over the world, such as in Norway.
That’s what Broom automotive and automotive journalist Benny Christensen tells Dagbladet.
He thinks it’s funny, but mostly so, that a new car brand like Tesla sets the standard followed by all others, including those that have been making cars for 100 years.
– They put the entire automotive world to bed when the Model S arrived in 2013, he says.
When it comes to car design, people’s tastes are different, he continues:
– I like. I think it’s cute, especially seen from behind. I think most people agree with this, otherwise hardly that many people would have bought it.
Christensen says he is aware of some quality debris on early Teslas, especially the Model S. His hunch, however, is that this has been corrected.
– I don’t think car brands like Volkswagen, Audi or Volvo are better, in general. I myself have driven a Model S for four years and have had minimal problems.
He says he wouldn’t be afraid to buy a Tesla again.
– The purpose of such tabloids and pointed posts is to get likes. In this sense, the purpose of Tiktoker has probably been achieved, he concludes.

“Overrated”
Dave VanderWerp is a well-known automotive journalist and car test driver in the United States. He tested the Plaid model for “CarAndDriver».
He says the much-discussed electric car blows all the other cars he’s tested off the track when it comes to acceleration.
But it wouldn’t be Tesla if it weren’t overhyped, he continues:
“For example, it can’t come close to the company’s claim of 200 mph,” writes on the site.
VanderWerp says Tesla is always “a couple of software updates away” from delivering on its promises:
“They swear family-style that updates and other “improvements” will come over time. This model is amazing in many ways, but it is Not the best”.
