DJ Quicksilver: The “new techno is the new EDM”

It’s been a long time since I heard any criticism from Orhan Terzi aka DJ Quicksilver: After the 90s star railed against today’s scene on his Facebook page in the first half of the year and didn’t mince his words about what was bothering him so much at the moment, the following followed Lately there have been more posts about fan mail or the operation that the 60-year-old has had.

Maybe it was the operation that stopped the star DJ from the Ruhr area, who originally came from Turkey, from criticizing him. But it is more likely that Terzi posted something when something caught his eye and he felt like saying it. Because one thing is certain: the producer of 90s trance hits is calm “Beautiful”, „Free“ or „I Have A Dream“ not on his social networks.

Quicksilver’s latest single “Durango”, a collaboration with Talla 2XLC, was released at the beginning of the year:

In August, Quicksilver shared the shocking news with his followers that he needed surgery on his vocal cords because his ENT doctor had discovered a white spot there. As a result, Terzi stopped smoking. He was still able to perform his performances and even joked that luckily he wasn’t a singer and neither was one of the microphone DJs he used to criticize. Longer conversations just weren’t possible for a while, but that’s not necessary during DJ sets anyway, true to the mottos “Music is life!” and “We find ourselves in music,” as Quicksilver said in a Facebook post from March 17th. announced in September.

Meanwhile, Terzi raised funds for the late Tomcraft and played a tribute set at NATURE ONE, posted fan letters like he was on the ’90s Bravo supershow and thanked David Hasselhoff on German Unity Day for the day off.

One of DJ Quicksilver’s fan mail letters:

The DJ now seems to be fit again after his operation and has been training as a soccer goalkeeper and in the gym, as one of his posts reveals (see cover photo of the article). Now the DJ and producer is taking more serious words again: He learned about dance tutorials that taught you how to dance to techno and what the clothes should look like. In times of uniform dance and clothing styles of hyped techno brands or in TikTok videos and a new generation of techno, it is an institution that is a thorn in the side of the old school veteran. He immediately rails against the tutorials, which have been found on the TikTok platform for some time. Techno was never characterized by a uniform, black clothing style, but rather an individual “Come as you are, dress as you are”.

Techno tutorials on TikTok that make many die-hard scene connoisseurs shake their heads:

Terzi describes the new trend as a “novel, uniformly black-clad, collective and monotonous fidgeting to techno”that’s nothing else “as a warmed-up, old 90s hard trance” and would soon “annoy the new generation itself”.

His conclusion: “The so-called new techno is the new EDM!”. For Terzi, this means that techno, as it is currently being celebrated, is a trend that will happen again. He already senses the next trend in Afro House, which his trance DJ colleague Armin van Buuren has also recently been producing. The „Ur-Techno“ However, “many new generations will survive” and is more than a trend. He is one “Attitude to life, a lifestyle” and above all colorful. When it comes to DJ Quicksilver’s social media, it’s clear that he is one of the most authentic people in the business who likes to communicate closely with his fans without wanting to trigger social media hype himself. Sympathetic, although sometimes with controversial criticism. Definitely honest.

By the way, there is also a current cartoon from Bringmann & Kopetzki’s Wild Life on exactly this topic, which you can currently watch exclusively in the October issue of our print magazine.
