Scientists from NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) have invented a miniature thermometer that can measure temperatures below 1 Kelvin (-272.15C).

The new mini-thermometer can be installed virtually anywhere, thus ensuring quick and accurate temperature measurements where it is needed most. The researchers’ results were published in the Applied Physics letters journal.
Scientists used a new thermometer to record the heating of conductors in a microwave amplifier. They claim that the hardware itself has promising applications – such as monitoring the temperature of chips and monitoring quantum computers. The funny idea turned into something very helpful, said the leader of the scientists in an official statement.
While most thermometers currently available measure temperature in about one-tenth of a second, the NIST scientists’ thermometer can do so in about 5 milliseconds. It is also extremely easy to produce, meaning you can create it without hindrance on a massive scale.
